Mirror Man

Mirror Man emerged from a desire to explore ADHD not as a medical condition to be explained, but as a lived experience to be felt. Much of the media surrounding ADHD focuses on symptoms, behaviours, and diagnosis. While these conversations are important, I became interested in a different question: how might cinema allow an audience to experience the emotional reality of ADHD from the inside? The film follows Ben, a man whose adult diagnosis forces him to re-evaluate his entire life. Rather than presenting this journey through exposition, I wanted the audience to experience the confusion, frustration, humour, emotional intensity, and imagination that shape his world. Sound, visual fragmentation, shifting memories, and moments of fantasy become tools through which Ben's inner experience can be expressed. At its heart, however, Mirror Man is not simply a film about ADHD. It is a story about identity. It is about the stories we tell ourselves when we do not understand why we struggle, and the liberation that can come when we finally find a framework that makes sense of our lives. My hope is that audiences who live with ADHD will recognise aspects of themselves in Ben's journey, while those unfamiliar with the condition will gain a deeper emotional understanding of an experience that is often misunderstood. Ultimately, Mirror Man is a film about self-acceptance, and the possibility that what we perceive as brokenness may simply be difference.
